Does Father of Bride Wear Same Tux as Groomsmen?

‘Dad’ is the one who always helps his ‘little girl’ find her way throughout her life. Finally, her ‘big day’ arrives and father walks the bride down the aisle. To fulfill this significant task, the supportive father of the bride should wear something that makes him look handsome. What would be best for him? He is not a part of wedding party technically; does father of bride wear same tux as groomsmen?

Should Father of Bride Wear the Same Tux as Groomsmen?

Not really! Not even for the sake of coordination with groomsmen. Uniformity of bridal party seems great live as well as in pictures. But for a father, the event is far bigger and special, if he wants to experiment with different accessories, just let him do it. If you wish to get that uniform appearance in the photographs, you may suggest your father to wear the same color tie (like groomsmen) over a different tux or a same color tux but designed differently. Do not mind, if he declines the idea.

What Should He Wear? Recommended Attire

Semi-formal, formal or ultra-formal, whatever the father of bride chooses to wear, it purely depends on his will. The important point in father’s dressing is to follow the dress code. If the groomsmen are wearing tuxedos, father of the bride should also wear a tux (surely a different one). Don’t confuse it with the previously answered question; does father of bride wear same tux as groomsmen.

You can try to rent the tux from a shop located close to the wedding venue (for groomsmen too). So you get it ready on the big day without any possible hassle. A tux for the father of the bride could be single or double breasted. For a more formal look (depends on the event), peaked, notched or shawl lapels could be tried.

If a casual look is what you are wishing for (casual event), opting for a linen suit or a guayabera (especially for summer outdoor weddings/beach weddings) with a dark- hued pants is yet another great option.

Be sure to get all the related accessories like suspenders, shoes, tie etc. beforehand from the local tux shop. Accessories for the father of the bride can be color-coordinated with groomsmen or with the gown color of his better half (whatever pleases him). Even patterned accessories are an acceptable option for the father of the bride.

A MOB should get some suggestions from the bride to-be. As bride and groom are the ones to plan their event these days, they can give her better idea, on what style would suit the mother, keeping in view the theme of the wedding.

  • A MOB dress should be finalized right after the selection of bridesmaid’s dresses. She should choose a harmonizing hue with bridesmaid’s dresses, avoid the same.

  • An MOB can wear any color that she likes except the one the bride is wearing. Let the bride stand out on her special day.
